There are so many books and songs out there about "things that go"! I found several books in our collection this week and we also took a trip to the library to check out two more - both of which we really enjoyed. Did you know there is a type of boat for EVERY letter of the alphabet (yes, even "X")? I do now! We also came across a lot of transportation themed songs this week - some we sang, some we played instruments to, some had motions, and others were just fun to listen to recordings of. Read below to see some "Things That Go" inspired literature and songs!

We finished the week off with two sensory activities related to the fields of a farm - both were easy to set up and fun for multiple age groups. Check them out below!
Today was a hodgepodge of farm activities that didn't really fit with a particular theme. We sang farm songs, played with farm toys and games, and read some more farm books. Read on below for details!
We took a super fun family trip to the farm to see everything we've been reading signing and talking about in person. While there, T learned a new word: "donkey!" Though he seems to think ALL farm animals are called "donkey." We had a blast visiting all of the different animals and eating some dairy fresh ice cream. Even our border collie (who's a farm dog at heart) really enjoyed herself. Read below for some pictures from our trip.
Obviously there are many many crops that grow on farms, but I decided to focus our attention for this day to vegetables. Read on below to see how we explored vegetables.
"Farm messes" probably seems like an odd topic for a day of activities. But since messes are my toddler's favorite thing and farms are full them, I figured it was a good way to start the week!
We explored wind and sun each on their own day this past week, but the list of activities was not particularly robust for either, so I'm combining them to one post. Read below to see how we took advantage (or TRIED to take advantage...) of a week of wild weather.
We read a lot of books around here (and sing a lot of songs too). This is not an exhaustive list of everything we read and sang this week, but rather the books and songs we incorporated as extra variety and to delve further into our weather theme.
Despite it being a solid week into April in an area where spring is generally warm, we had the pleasure of experiencing some snow this week. We are even expecting some significant accumulation tomorrow. So even though I was expecting more "April Showers" type weather for theme, we were able to experience some winter weather too!
In addition to the weather mother nature gifted us, we did some of our own exploration as well. The activities we did today to explore winter weather were some of my toddler's favorites this week. Our very first week has already served as a lesson in flexibility (but let's be honest - the past two years of becoming a parent have TRIED to teach me about flexibility and I NEVER learn!). We were actually supposed to focus on farms this week, but the weather was SO WILD that I just had to take advantage of the opportunity to experience so many types of weather in such as short period of time.
Read on to see what we did to explore clouds and rain. |
