We read a lot of books around here (and sing a lot of songs too). This is not an exhaustive list of everything we read and sang this week, but rather the books and songs we incorporated as extra variety and to delve further into our weather theme.
Books about Weather
I realized after compiling this list that we were really lacking on books about rain and clouds and about sunshine. Though Weather covered it, we didn't read any specific stories about rain or clouds. If I did it all over again, I think Little Cloud by Eric Carle and Rain! by Linda Ashman would be good choices. I'm still struggling to find a good option to read about sunny days.
Songs About Weather
At first I had a hard time thinking of songs about weather. A little brainstorming and internet searching and we came up with four songs that we sang all week long.
T is not singing words yet, but he LOVES music. He really picked up on the clapping and saying "BOOM BOOM BOOM!" during "Rain and Thunder" and singing the "Ah, ahah, ah, ahah, ah, ahah, ah!" part of If all the Raindrops. We have sung Itsy Bitsy Spider before, but we did it a lot more this week than usual. He started to really pick up on the hand motions.
- Rain and Thunder (to the tune of Frère Jacques)
- Rain and Thunder, Rain and Thunder
- BOOM BOOM BOOM! (clap as you say boom)
- See a flash of lightening, very very frightening
- BOOM BOOM BOOM! (clap as you say boom)
- The Itsy Bitsy Spider
- If All the Raindrops
- Oh Mister Sun
