As I mentioned in an earlier post this week, part of the reason we did so few activities is because we had a lot of great outings available to us to explore "Things That Go."
Getting out of the house? T having lots of fun? Little to no planning or prep on my part? Sounds like a win-win!

Local Airport and Flight School
A town that neighbors us has a small airport/flight school with a hanger full of small planes and helicopters. The gentleman working at the flight school was incredibly kind and was willing to take us on a little tour. We got to see the planes and helicopters, feel the propellers, and T even got to sit in the cockpit. It didn't cost us anything and we got to have a fun afternoon as a family. We hope to return some day this summer to see a plane take off.
Train Museum and Ride
We are also fortunate to have a national historic site near us that features train rides and a museum dedicated to the locomotive history in our area. We were extra lucky, as this week featured free admission thanks to National Parks Week!
I was worried the museum would be a bit boring for a toddler - but we ALL had a blast! They had lots of sensory activities available including trains to climb on, coal to dig in, and a "please touch" table with train flags, conductors hats, parts of train tracks and more. We were able to take a train ride on a newly restored steam train from 1929. It was a very fun experience!

"Touch a Truck"
Entirely by coincidence, we learned this week that a local school was hosting a fundraiser full of "things that go." They had emergency vehicles, construction trucks, tractor-trailers and more - all available to climb in, touch, and pretend to drive. It was a really cool experience for everyone (my husband loved learning about the robot that the bomb squad uses!) and it seemed to be quite profitable for the elementary school that was hosting it.
