There are so many books and songs out there about "things that go"! I found several books in our collection this week and we also took a trip to the library to check out two more - both of which we really enjoyed. Did you know there is a type of boat for EVERY letter of the alphabet (yes, even "X")? I do now! We also came across a lot of transportation themed songs this week - some we sang, some we played instruments to, some had motions, and others were just fun to listen to recordings of. Read below to see some "Things That Go" inspired literature and songs!
Books about "Things that Go"
I tried to make sure we read at least one book about each of the major types of "things that go" that inspired our activities this week: planes/helicopters, trains, cars, and boats.
Songs about "Things that Go"
Songs to Sing:
Songs to Listen To:
- Row, Row, Row Your Boat (My toddler LOVES singing this song and pretending our arms are oars. We hold hands and rock back and forth like we are rowing. We do a "regular" version, then a fast one. The third time we start out slow and then halfway through shout: "FASTER!" and finish "merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream!" fast again. The anticipation for the slow half just kills him and he cracks up before we get to go fast!)
- Little Red Caboose
- The Wheels on the Bus
Songs to Listen To:
- Drive My Car (The Laurie Berkner Band strikes again. The video link has some cute hand motions that can be done with this song while listening and/or singing along)
- The Airplane Song (Seriously...it's like the Laurie Berkner Band knows what I'm doing and is writing songs to help me out. This one has some fun actions like jumping, spinning, galloping, etc. to incorporate. It was great exercise for me as I helped my little guy fly like a plane and jump and dance around!)
- A Long Way Home (I've always been a fan of Tom Chapin's music for kids. "A Long Way Home" is a fun song about a very long journey home on all types of "Things that Go." And, along with a lot of Laurie Berkner Band songs, it's free if you have Amazon Prime Music!)
