In the heat of the summer, we enjoyed two fun fruit and veggie focused activities - a trip to the Farmer's Market and berry picking.
Farmer's Market
I did not get any pictures from our farmer's market trip, but it was definitely a great activity. We enjoyed food truck fare for lunch, sipped some fresh squeezed lemonade, and purchased some produce from local farms.
Berry Picking
What activity is better than berry picking for a toddler who likes to put things into containers?! One of our local farms is a pick-your-own operation. Depending on the season you can pick strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, canning tomatoes, or pumpkins. We've gone in the past for strawberries (that was a great one for a toddler since the berries are big and very low to the ground). This week the farm was offering pick-your-own blueberries and red raspberries....and we came home with an abundance of both!
Our toddler enjoyed picking a few, eating a lot, "helping" put berries that we picked into the bucket, and even just playing in the fields.
I'm planning to use our raspberries to make raspberry sherbet. Our blueberries will likely become blueberry pancakes and blueberry crumb muffins, both of which I like to make and freeze. It is especially nice to be able to serve my toddler homemade blueberry pancakes for breakfast without doing all of the work every time. I simply take out a frozen pancake and pop it in the toaster.
